Big hiring day on tap

The stated goal of hiring 5,000 workers would increase Chipotle’s employee count by some 8%. During last year’s hiring event, Chipotle added 4,000 workers to the ranks in a single day.

If you’re interested in National Career Day, just go to the website and pick a time slot and location so you can meet with a manager from 8-11 a.m. or 3-5 p.m.

Meanwhile, there’s more good news for workers in the lowest quarter of the economic ladder: Their wages are growing at levels not seen since 2009.

Full-time workers in the 25th percentile — those who make around $13 an hour — are enjoying the fruits of a tightening labor market and a corporate-led trend toward higher wages. The Labor Department says their average wage is up 3.1% from the same time last year.

Chipotle has tuition reimbursement

Chipotle in particular is one of a handful of chain restaurants that offer tuition reimbursement for employees at all levels.

The chain’s tuition-reimbursement offer is for hourly workers who have 12 months of continuous employment under their belt. Employees get 90% of tuition, books and fees reimbursed by Chipotle — up to the IRS limit of $5,250 per calendar year.

Salaried workers get the same offer, but there is no requirement for them to put 12 months in before they can take advantage of this benefit.

Finally, don’t forget that kids eat free on Sundays during the month of September at Chipotle with purchase of a burrito, a bowl, an order of tacos or a salad. They’ll also get a nifty Dragons Love Tacos activity sheet! Valid for kids 12 and under.
