Clark says remote jobs, as plentiful as they may be, aren’t for everybody. Before you apply for a work-from-home position, make sure you’re aware of how it may affect your career.
“In most workplaces,” he says on his podcast, “if advancement on the job, making more money and progressing well on the payscale over the course of a career is really important to you, you cannot work remotely exclusively. You might be able to work remotely a day or two a week, but you’ve got to be present.”
“The way humanity works, people kind of get written out of the script for promotions when they work completely remotely,” he adds. “People’s connections to their fellow workers and to the employer eventually suffer if you’re across the country or outside of the United States working for an organization.”
