Sprint is making a bold play for new customers this holiday season, announcing Wednesday that it would offer data plans for 50% less than the cost of those offered by its competitors. The deal coincides with the launch of Sprint’s new data network.

Here’s the deal

The offer is available now through Jan. 7, 2016. Mobile customers can switch from their current carrier’s plan to Sprint for half of what they were paying. The offer applies to eligible plans from AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon, as well as Cricket and MetroPCS customers. Here are the specific plans from the three major carriers eligible for the deal:

  • Verizon: 1GB, 3GB, 6GB, 12GB, 18GB, 20GB and 25GB shared data plans
  • AT&T: 300MB, 2GB, 5GB, 15GB, 20GB and 25GB shared data plans
  • T-Mobile: 2GB, 6GB and 10GB ‘Simple Choice’ rate plans

The discount lasts two years, until January 2018. Plus, Sprint will pay for any fees related to your switch — up to $650 per line via an American Express Reward Card.

Plus, there’s no contract required to get the deal!

Those who want to test Sprint’s service on a new device can cancel before the end of a 28-day trial period, without having to pay a restocking fee. However, customers will have to pay all usage fees, including service charges, no matter what.

Sprint offered a similar half-off discount around this time last year, and has continued to battle T-Mobile in the second tier of major phone carriers behind Verizon and AT&T.

Research has found that Sprint’s call and text service has improved considerably, though its data speed still lags. The company is aiming for further improvements with the unveiling of its new LTE Plus network, which promises peak speeds in excess of 100MB on capable devices. The network is available in 77 major markets, concentrated mostly along the Atlantic coast, and inside the Rust Belt and California.
