Seniors can get a lifetime pass to America’s national parks and other federal lands for just $10, but they have to act fast. The price of the senior pass is increasing from $10 to $80 starting August 28, 2017.

The lifetime senior pass, which is available to those 62 years or older, has been $10 since 1994.

According to the National Park Service, Congress passed legislation in late 2016 that stated the cost of the lifetime senior pass must be equal to the annual cost of a non-senior America the Beautiful ‘ The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass, which is currently $80.

These senior passes provide access to more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by the following federal agencies:

  • National Park Service
  • U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
  • Bureau of Land Management
  • Bureau of Reclamation
  • U.S. Forest Service
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The passes cover entrance and standard amenity (day-use) recreation fees and provide discounts on some expanded amenity recreation fees.

“We’re seeing a dramatic increase in Senior Pass sales since the National Park Service announced earlier this month the final date of August 27 for the $10 Senior Pass,” said Barbara Fearon, superintendent of Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial in Ohio. “We’re happy to accommodate as many seniors as we can with the $10 lifetime pass.”

To get a lifetime senior pass, bring your photo ID to any federal recreation site that charges an entrance or standard amenity (day-use) fee. Here’s a full list.

You can also buy one online or through the mail, but a $10 processing fee will apply — bringing the total to $20.

If you think a lifetime senior pass is something you or someone you know may be interested in, remember to take advantage of the $10 price before it goes up August 28!
