Portable generators can give you peace of mind in the event of a natural disaster or when unexpected winter weather knocks out the electricity.
But if the generator overheats and starts a fire, you have a whole other type of problem on your hands.

After receiving four reports of generators overheating and catching fire, Westinghouse iGen2500 (blue) and iPro2500 (gray) portable inverter generators have been recalled by importer/distributor WE Investments.
MWE says the Chinese-made generators can be used used to power appliances, cell phones or other electronic devices in the event of a power outage or when remote power is needed.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. Some 4,500 of the generators were sold online from June 2017 through October 2017.
To determine if you have one of these recalled devices, look for “Westinghouse iGen2500” or “Westinghouse iPro2500” in white lettering on the side and front of the generator.
You can also look for the number of watts — 2200 Running Watts and 2500 Peak Watts for both generators — printed on the side.
The generators were sold online through Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com, Houzz.com, Menards.com, PowerEquipmentDirect.com, Walmart.com and elsewhere for between $580 and $600.
Each unit weighs 49 pounds and measure about 20 inches long by 18 wide inches by 11 inches tall.
