Playtex has issued a recall on some of its children’s plates and bowls, citing them as a choking hazard, the company announced Tuesday.
The faux kitchenware has graphics on them which contain a clear plastic layer that “can peel or bubble from the surface of the plates and bowls, posing a choking hazard to young children,” the Dover, Delaware-based company said.
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled plates and bowls and take them away from young children. Consumers should contact Playtex for a full refund,” an advisory on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website said.
By law, U.S. manufacturers, importers and retailers are required to report products that fail safety standards to the commission.
Playtex said that it had received four reports of children choking on the clear piece of plastic, 11 reports of the plastic pieces found in children’s mouths and 372 reports of the plastic layer on the bowls and plates peeling or bubbling.
The plates have various printed designs including cars, construction scenes, giraffes, princesses, superheroes and more. The white polypropylene plates and bowls also have a colored rim on top and a non-slip bottom.
The China-manufactured bowls and plates have “Playtex” written on the bottom, the firm said. Stores were the product is sold include Babies“R”Us, Target, Walmart, as well as Amazon.com online.
The plates were sold separately as well as in a Mealtime set comprised of a cup, a bowl, a plate and two utensils. Customers are urged to get a refund, the company said.
