Hyundai is recalling nearly 1 million Sonatas and Sonata hybrids for problems with the seat belt pretensioner that could cause the belt to become loose while driving.

Some 980,000 Hyundai Sonatas and the hybrid versions are being recalled because the seat belts could detach from their anchor pretensioners, potentially leading to an injury.
‘During vehicle assembly, the anchor pretensioner is fastened to the sill prior to being connected to the seat belt linkage,’ the saftey recall report reads. ‘If, during vehicle assembly, the connector does not fully latch when the linkage is pressed onto the connector, the seat belt can detach from the anchor pretensioner.’
Involved in the recall are 2011-2014 standard Sonatas built from December 11, 2009 to May 29, 2014 and 2011-2015 Sonata hybrids built from December 2, 2010 to January 9, 2015.
So far there’s only been one reported minor injury related to this recall issue. No deaths have been reported.
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail beginning in April to take their car into the dealer to have the seat belt checked.
If it’s not attached correctly, the dealer will reattach it properly for free.
Questions can be directed to 1-855-371-9460 or you can enter your VIN at the NHTSA website to see if your vehicle is included in the recall.
