Ford is recalling two million of its popular F-150 pickup trucks because of concerns about the seat belts catching fire.

The Detroit automaker says it has received nearly two dozen reports of smoke or fire coming from the driver and front passenger seat belt pretensioners when deployed. Sparks could cause the pretensioners to ignite and burn insulation and carpet, according to Ford.
Seventeen of the reports of smoke or fire came from the United States, while an additional six episodes were reported in Canada.
Fortunately, there are no apparent injuries or accidents stemming from this defect.
The affected models include:
• 2015-18 Ford F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Assembly Plant, March 12, 2014 through Aug. 23, 2018
• 2015-18 Ford F-150 vehicles built at Kansas City Assembly Plant, Aug. 20, 2014 through Aug. 23, 2018
Owners on record who have one of these vehicles will be contacted shortly to have heat-resistant tape applied to the carpet, among other fixes, free of charge at a Ford dealership.
