Report: The Best and Worst Days of the Week To Buy Gas

If you’re buying gas for your vehicle week in and week out, money expert Clark Howard wants you to try to save money at every turn. One way to do that is to choose the right day of the week to buy gas.

What Is the Cheapest Day To Get Gas?

Mondays offer the lowest average gas price in most of the United States, according to research from GasBuddy. Fridays are also favorable compared to the other days.

When it comes to the most expensive days to get gas, GasBuddy says it found that on average Thursday is the most expensive day and Wednesday is the second most expensive day.

To come up with the data for its findings, GasBuddy says it analyzed fuel prices from the GasBuddy app from January 1 to December 16, 2021.

“Though there is variation in daily gas prices across different states, the consensus is that filling up at the beginning or end of the work week, on Monday or Friday, is the best way to save money,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says in a news release. “But even if you can’t always time your fillups, the golden rule is to always shop around before filling up.”

No matter if gas prices go up or down, by knowing when to fill ‘er up you can make sound decisions at the pump that will help your wallet.

Of course, if your tank is dangerously close to empty, it makes sense to get gas right away and then top off when it’s cheaper.
