The nation’s full-fare airlines are preparing to overhaul the interiors of their planes to deal with the fact that fewer people are checking bags than ever before.

Economics has a real impact on people’s behavior. When the airlines decided to fee you to death on baggage fees, people started going with carry-on bags only.

When I fly Southwest, the first two bags are free. And wouldn’t you believe it, the bins are empty from one end to another when I go on the plane. Everyone seems to check their bags.

People respond to economics!
