Sprint is introducing a new weapon in the cell phone service provider wars — one that might appeal to avid TV and movie watchers. The Overland Park, Kansas-based company is offering free access to Hulu for those who sign up for Sprint’s Unlimited Freedom plan.

The deal starts on November 17, 2017 and is available online only through December 8.

How to get free Hulu with Sprint’s Unlimited Freedom plan

The fine print says that the deal is good for one Hulu Limited Commercials plan per eligible Sprint account. Tablet access via MHS (mobile hot spot) will be reduced to 2G speeds after 10GB a month, the company says.

Here are the deets on the deal, per Hulu’s terms and conditions:

  • Sprint customers will get Hulu’s $7.99 a month plan for free
  • The deal requires manual registration of a Hulu account at hulu.com/sprint from a Sprint phone on Sprint’s network
  • For phones and tablets on a metered plan, be aware that streaming will pull from monthly allotment
  • The plan is for new or returning Hulu subscribers only
  • The plan is valid also for existing Hulu-billed Limited Commercials plan subscribers

Sprint is locked in a tightening battle for market share with the other wireless carriers. A third quarter earnings report this year showed Verizon out front among the big four providers with 148 million subscribers. AT&T (138 million) was next, followed by T-Mobile (70 million) and Sprint (53 million).

The big carriers all have struck streaming partnerships, allowing them to tout their networks and phones as viable products on which to consume popular content and entertainment.

T-Mobile has a Netflix-on-us plan, while AT&T offers HBO with its Unlimited Plus wireless plan. Meanwhile, Verizon continues to curate content for Go90, a streaming app it’s offering its customers for free.

Unlimited mobile plans

Wireless providers these days have some pretty sweet unlimited data plans out there. The average price for a decent unlimited plan is about $80 per month. Of course, some providers throttle speeds based on high data use.
