While at CES, I got a chance to interview Jim Barry (@ceaanswerman), the Digital Answer Man and media spokesman for the Consumer Electronics Association.
One of the things I discussed with Jim was how the “Internet of things” concept that was so fuzzy to me in years past really came alive for me in 2015 as I walked around CES.
The simplest example I can give of the Internet of things is the Nest thermostat. This little smart thermostat lowered our heating and cooling costs by 30% just by learning our patterns and automatically adjusting the thermostat. It’s one of the many devices that will be part of your life to make things easier for you and save you money.
That now looks like a very early version of where we’re headed. The stuff I’m seeing at this trade show is absolutely amazing!
SwingTracker by Diamond Kinetics ($150) – This is a little device you put on the end of your bat to monitor the bat speed, angle, and other important metrics of your swing. Using a smartphone app to track the data in real time, SwingTracker becomes your own batting coach.
Video Doorbell by Ring ($149) – The Ring replaces your home doorbell. It has a built-in camera and microphone plus it’s wireless, so you can see the person ringing your doorbell no matter where you are. You could even grant access to your home to visitors using the Ring if you wish.
Cor smart thermostat from Carrier ($250) – The Internet of things isn’t limited to tech geeks. Traditional companies are getting into it too. HVAC company Carrier, for example, is here at CES for the first time with their smart thermostat in the vein of the Nest.
OneLink Wi-Fi Thermostat from FirstAlert ($200) – Similar to the Cor and the Nest.
iCam HD Pro by Amaryllo ($149) – This innovative home security camera features full HD video, object tracking, multi-viewing, and 360 degree rotation to give you full control of your home security from anywhere.
