Good Samaritans rescue father and drowning children in car wreck

It’s amazing how good people can be. I have a story that touched my heart that I want to share with you.

You may have heard about the man taking his two children and one of their friends to go skiing for the day in Utah. The man lost control of his car on a canyon road and went into an icy river. The car was upside down and getting quickly submerged. His first thought, as he later told a reporter was, “So this is how it ends.”

But it didn’t end that way. Instead, at great risk to their own lives, people who witnessed the accident ran down into the freezing water and pulled the three children and the dad to safety.

Two of the kids were basically at death’s door with hypothermia and later had to be airlifted out of there. Bystanders administered CPR and they were taken in an SUV to meet the EMS techs on their way up and make the transfer. But they all survived.

In life, we never know how any of us would react in an emergency. People react all different ways. I was in a race two years ago and a woman collapsed right in front of me. I stopped to help and thank goodness a registered nurse also stopped to help. But a lot of people just kept racing by. (The woman turned out to just be a case of heat exhaustion and she was OK.)

Don’t be that person who keeps going. Do what you can to make a difference. I never want you to be a spectator in your own life. Be action orientated and take control. Your actions to help another may not always succeed, but they’re always worth the effort.
