One of the co-founders of Skype wants to offer free phone calling and free mobile Internet to the world via a new startup.

Most of the details surrounding FreedomPop.com are being kept closely under wraps. But I think you can expect a freemium model, where some functionality will be free and then you’ll have to pay for more if you want it — similar to the way Skype works.

If you’re interested, go to FreedomPop.com and fill in their short form. They’ll get back to you with more information as it becomes available.

Freedom Pop might prove to be vaporware. Or it might be the real deal. Nobody knows quite yet. But with the Skype co-founder on board, that gives the venture more credibility than if this were an unknown entrepreneur trying to launch it.
