Appliance and furniture retailer hhgregg could shutter for good if it doesn’t find a buyer in the next several days, the company said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on March 29.
The company statement indicates a total liquidation of the chain’s remaining 132 stores could begin as early as April 8, without outside intervention.
The Indianapolis-based company had already announced the closure of 88 stores in 15 states last month.
While hhgregg previously indicated that it will continue to honor all gift cards, that could be a moot point if stores are closed completely. As of March 3, there was around $1.4 million unredeemed value on company-issued gift cards, the Star reports.
So if you have a gift card to hhgregg, you should go ahead and use it — better to be safe than sorry!
