More than 1 million chainsaws sold at national tool discount and equipment retailer Harbor Freight Tools are being recalled this week because of a malfunction which could result in serious injury.
“The power switch can malfunction and allow the chainsaw to continue operating after the operator moves the switch to the ‘off’ position, posing a serious injury hazard to the operator,” a recall notice from the Consumer Product Safety Commission says.
“The chainsaw switch can fail and continue to run,” Harbor Freight Tools says on its website.
Harbor Freight Tools, which has more than 850 stores nationwide, sells the two recalled 14-inch electric chainsaws under the following three brands: Portland, One Stop Gardens, and Chicago Electric.
The Calabasas, California-based company says that consumers should immediately stop using the recalled chainsaws and return them to a local Harbor Freight Tools store for a free replacement chainsaw, which will be available beginning May 21.
