Verizon continues to expand its 5G home internet service. With the addition of Milwaukee and Tampa on April 8, it’s now available in 30 U.S. cities.

This news from Verizon comes on the heels of T-Mobile announcing a large expansion of its 5G home internet service. Verizon and T-Mobile are the only providers currently offering 5G home internet.

Verizon 5G Home Internet Expands to 30 U.S. Cities

Verizon debuted its 5G network for home internet in late 2018. Here are the 30 cities where it’s now available:

  • Arlington, Texas
  • Anaheim, Calif.
  • Atlanta, Ga.
  • Charlotte, N.C.
  • Chicago, Ill.
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • Cleveland, Ohio
  • Dallas, Texas
  • Denver, Colo.
  • Detroit, Mich.
  • Hartford, Conn.
  • Houston, Texas
  • Indianapolis, Ind.
  • Kansas City, Mo.
  • Las Vegas, Nev.
  • Los Angeles, Calif.
  • Louisville, Ky.
  • Miami, Fla.
  • Milwaukee, Wis.
  • Minneapolis, Minn.
  • Omaha, Neb.
  • Phoenix, Ariz.
  • Sacramento, Calif.
  • Saint Paul, Minn.
  • Salt Lake City, Utah
  • San Diego, Calif.
  • San Francisco, Calif.
  • San Jose, Calif.
  • St. Louis, Mo.
  • Tampa, Fla.

But you can’t get Verizon 5G Home in some suburbs. For instance, I live in Marietta, about 20 miles north of downtown Atlanta, and Verizon 5G is not available for my home.

You can check your eligibility here to see if your specific address is eligible for service. Verizon says it plans to continue adding cities.

Verizon Offers Cheaper Price for Existing Mobile Customers

Verizon offers two separate prices for its 5G home internet service. If you already have a Verizon mobile plan at the rate of $30/month or more, you can add internet for $50 per month. If you’re new to Verizon and want only the internet service, it will cost $70 each month. Both those monthly rates assume autopay and paper-free billing.

Obviously, this is Verizon’s way of incentivizing you to get both the company’s mobile and internet plans.

Users of Verizon 5G Home Internet Can Expect 300 Mbps

Verizon says its 5G home internet offers typical download speeds of 300 Mbps and max speeds of up to 1 Gbps, which it says allows for multi-device streaming and gaming. The company says customers can also expect upload speeds around 50 Mbps with no data limits.

Customers will be able to connect to the Verizon 5G network via a WiFi gateway device, which is included in the price of the plan. (Self-installation is free.)

The Verizon 5G network comes with no annual contract and no cancellation fees.

Verizon 5G Home Offering Free Promotion for Discovery+

If you sign up for Verizon’s 5G home internet by April 21, you’ll get a one-year, ad-free subscription to discovery+, an $84 value.

Discovery+ streams more content from the Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, TLC, ID, Animal Planet and more. It also offers original content including Oprah Winfrey’s new show, Super Soul. (Pro tip: The subscription will auto-renew after a year, so if you don’t want to start paying for discovery+ after 12 months, make sure to cancel your subscription.)

Final Thoughts

If Verizon 5G is available at your address, it’s worth considering, especially for Verizon mobile users, because of its affordable price and fast download speeds. Without a contract, there’s no penalty for trying it, and if you stay with the plan for a year, you can enjoy discovery+ for free.
