Millions of people have been laid off due to the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic, but there are some major companies doing a lot of hiring right now — including Walmart.
As of this writing, Walmart is hiring for thousands of part-time, full-time, temporary and permanent positions.
Walmart employs around 2.2 million people around the world. The company announced in September that it’s looking for 20,000 seasonal workers to work in its U.S. eCommerce fulfillment centers as online shopping ramps up for the holidays.
The hiring spree will last through January 1, 2021, Walmart says.
Here’s what you need to know about those jobs and about working for Walmart in general.
Walmart says many of the seasonal jobs that need to be filled are for positions such as order fillers and power equipment operators.
In addition to staffing its fulfillment centers, Walmart says it continues to fill full-time and part-time positions as needed in its stores.
Here’s just a sample of some of the openings:
You can apply for those and the many other open positions here.
Of course, new opportunities can open up at any time. Be sure to check back often if you don’t see what you’re looking for at first.
According to the company the requirements for getting a job at Walmart will depend on the job you apply for:
“Application requirements vary depending on the career area you are viewing. As a minimum age requirement, you must be at least 16 years old to work at Walmart and 18 at Sam’s Club. Certain positions, however, require a minimum age of 18.”
More senior positions may require an advanced degree, while others will require less education. Walmart does ask that you include any prior work history as you complete your application.
Walmart is moving quickly to fill its open positions, according to a September 2020 news release.
The company says you can get hired immediately and potentially be scheduled for shifts “as quickly as 48 hours” after applying.
4. How Much Do Jobs at Walmart Pay?
Walmart says that depending on location, schedule, and position, seasonal employees can start at $15.75 to $23.75 an hour.
In many cases, these seasonal positions will be converted into full-time jobs, the retailer says.
Benefits at Walmart will vary by location and a number of other factors. However, most employees can expect to receive:
Walmart also offers a program called Live Better U that allows employees to earn degrees with institutions like Purdue University Global and the University of Florida for as little as $1 a day.
The company says that more than 12,000 part-time and full-time associates are active in the program, working toward degrees in Computer Science, Business Administration, Healthcare Management and more.
