More and more employers are snooping on job interviewees in a way that gives me the total creeps.

People are going to job interviews and being told to hand over their Facebook log-in credentials. Then the employer signs in as if they’re you and looks at your private messages and photos. These potential employers apparently want to see your most private thoughts and actions to see if you’re right for the job.

When news of this broke, Facebook jumped out with threats of legal action against any company that asked an applicant for their log in. But they later softened that position. Now a couple of senators are asking for an investigation because they believe employers that do this are violating federal law.

The reality is, regardless of the law, employers are out of line trying to do this to begin with. It is not their place to intrude in somebody’s private life in this way. This shows completely unacceptable behavior on the part of employers.

If you are an employer doing this or thinking about doing this, you need to go to a re-education camp.

On the other hand, if you’re desperately looking for work and a potential employer asks for this, there’s one clear choice in my mind. I don’t care how desperate your situation is, if you acquiesce to an employer that would be this nervy, what do you think your working life would be like if they became your employer?
