Uber and Lyft want you…to help veterans experiencing homelessness get some free rides to job interviews!

When you take an Uber ride today on Veterans Day, you’ll have the opportunity to donate $5 toward an estimated free 10,000 rides that the company will donate over the coming year. The rides will be given to vets by their employment counselors when they go for job interviews. It’s all part an initiative in conjunction with Joining Forces, a White House organization that supports service members, veterans and their families.
Lyft, meanwhile, is reportedly taking part in the initiative too, but no official word yet on their website or social media channels on how their involvement will shape up. So far all we know is this:
‘We’re donating thousands of rides and are proud to join the White House’s effort to help serve our nation’s veterans,’ a Lyft spokesperson told the Huffington Post. ‘Accessing transportation shouldn’t stand in the way of a veteran reentering the workforce.’
