Ebates, the popular online cash back website, is having a birthday this week. In celebration of the event, you can get 15% back on your purchases at over 250 online stores!

How it works

If you’ve never used Ebates before, all you have to do is sign up for an account. Once you do, you’ll be able to select a signup bonus of your choice, such as a $10 Walmart or Target gift card, which you can redeem after your first $25 spend on Ebates.

Then, shop your favorite stores through the Ebates website to earn cash back on your purchases! If you’re going to shop anyway, you might as well earn some money as you shop. Ebates can give you cash back at over 1,800 online retailers.

Ebates makes its money by earning commissions through its referral program, and then shares some of the commissions with its members in the form of cash back. Members receive their cash back quarterly via check or through PayPal, so you will need a small dose of patience in order to wait for the money you’ll earn.

This week, you can earn 15% cash back from select online stores such as the ones below, but there are many more to choose from!

  • American Eagle Outfitters
  • Famous Footwear
  • Groupon
  • JCPenney
  • L’Occitane
  • LivingSocial
  • Lord and Taylor
  • Nike
  • Puma
  • Saks Fifth Avenue

  • Toms
  • Travelocity

Make sure you’re really getting the best deal

A caution with Ebates: You’ll want to think ahead to make sure you’re really getting the best deal when using Ebates.

  • Pricematch: Always search the item you’re about to purchase to make sure you are getting the very best deal.
  • Avoid buying just because it’s discounted: Make sure the item is something you really need or really want to buy — don’t buy it just because the offer looks good.
  • Note that you’ll have to wait for the money: Since Ebates pays out cash back quarterly, you will have to wait a bit to get your cash back bonuses.

Ebates can be a great way to save more, depending on what you’re buying and as long as the discount is better than other stores. But since cash back offers are normally in the 3-5% range, the 15% cash back is a good deal this week. Combine with coupons and other discounts within the stores to stack your savings!
