Four kinds of popular Duncan Hines cake mixes have been recalled by parent company Conagra Brands after a retail sample tested positive for Salmonella, according to the FDA.

The mixes in question are the 15.25 oz. boxes of Duncan Hines Classic White Cake, Classic Yellow Cake, Butter Golden Cake and Signature Confetti Cake. Here is the specific product information so you can make sure you don’t have any in your pantry:

According to the FDA, “Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.”

There are five illnesses that are being investigated related to people who may have eaten the cake mix prior to becoming sick. The FDA is reminding people not to consume raw cake mix and wash their hands, cooking surfaces and utensils thoroughly when dealing with uncooked batter.

If you do find any product with the serial numbers and dates in your possession you are advised not to consume them and to return them to the store where you purchased them. Conagra is working with customers to ensure the packages are removed from store shelves and are no longer distributed.

Consumers with questions should call the Conagra Consumer Care team at 1-888-299-7646, 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday or visit www.duncanhines.com.
