A vehicle that gets 1,290 miles per gallon!

Is it possible to build vehicles with gas mileage that can crack the 100 miles mark that many electric vehicles get?

You betcha. Just ask the winners of the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) Collegiate Design Series: Supermileage.

The winning team from Penn State designed a vehicle that gets 1,290 miles per gallon! Several other teams also cracked the 1,000 miles per gallon mark, including those from Brigham Young University and Universite Laval.

If college student engineers could make a vehicle that gets over 1,000 mpgs, that signals better gas mileage to come.

Coupled with all our new energy supplies, it means we are becoming an exporting giant at the same time we use less energy ourselves. That’s the key to a sound financial footing for our country in the future.
