A new Consumer Reports car reliability survey shows that expensive European cars may be fun to own and fun to drive, but you’ll probably be driving them to the repair shop more often than you’d like.

Consumer Reports does some of the most comprehensive research into car reliability, thanks in part to the feedback from their massive subscriber base. The magazine’s latest tally takes a look at the predicted reliability of 2012 makes and models.

The least reliable of all brands is Jaguar, followed by Porsche and Audi — all three of them expensive European nameplates.

On the flipside, the most reliable vehicle of all is Scion, Toyota’s low-cost youth brand. Following Scion, the nameplates with the best predicted reliability for 2012 include:

  • Lexus
  • Acura
  • Mazda
  • Honda
  • Toyota
  • Infiniti
  • Subaru
  • Nissan
  • Volvo

As for American cars, they’re right in the middle of the pack. (See the entire list.) That’s a significant improvement over where they used to be in annual reliability stats!

Editor’s note: This segment originally aired Oct. 27, 2011.
