How to get a $40 reward card for just test-driving a car

Even if you’re not necessarily in the market for a new car, I think it’s safe to say that free money is something we all can get behind. One automaker is offering a free ride of sorts just for getting behind the wheel of one of its vehicles.

Hyundai will give you a $40 reward card for test-driving one of their new cars. The deal is active right now on the car maker’s site.

This is how it works: You choose a card-issuer — either Amazon, Target or Visa — and enter your information, including your address so that it can detect the closet Hyundai dealership to you. Once you do that you’ll be prompted to enter the type of Hyundai vehicle you want to test-drive.

Now, $40 is a nice chuck of change on a reward card, so I wanted to see how legit this offer was. I entered my info on the site and I chose the Elantra GT.

The Elantra is a compact sedan that retails around $23,000 fully loaded. It’s known for being great on gas so I wanted to test out its dexterity on the road.

Once you select the vehicle on the website, a box will appear that says: “You consent to receiving telemarketing calls or texts at this number using an automatic telephone dialing system by Hyundai Motor America and its authorized dealers. I understand I do not have to consent in order to purchase any products or services. Carrier charges may apply.”

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Here we go with the unwanted calls and texts,” but rest assured you can opt out of any annoying telemarketing calls if you don’t want to receive them. Again, we’re trying to get that $40 reward card.

Once you click the box, it will take you to a page that has your code on it. You will be asked to either print the page or jot the code down.

Because I chose Amazon as the card I wanted, it presented me with a coupon to take to the Hyundai dealer nearest me.  “Present this coupon at [closest] Hyundai to receive your FREE $40 Amazon.com Gift Card!”

The deal is good for one per household every six months.
