About this photo: This is the town of Loen, Norway, with the fjord in the background.
Best deal found: The cost of living in Norway is one of the highest in the world, and we rented a Nissan Micra and got tremendous fuel economy, making it cheaper to travel around. I asked for AAA discounts at hotels and that helped some. We found a Salvation Army store in Lillehammer and bought a bunad (a traditional Norwegian dress) for about .10 on the dollar. Always love a bargain. Gerry

About this photo: This is the Japanese temple near He’eia Oahu. It is a scale replica of the 900 year old temple at Uji in Japan. Enjoy feeding the Coy fish and the Swans and banging the deep-toned gong.

About this photo: Our hotel balcony view during our week in quarantine. I wasn’t actually supposed to open the window but had to get some fresh air since my wife chain smokes. Clark would love this hotel in the heart of Shanghai at only $37/night. You also get an extra 10% off when under quarantine.

Destination: Mosca, CO
About this photo: This photo was taken from the top of a sand dune at the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. The park is one of the most unique spots I have ever seen in the U.S. — it has water, mountains, and sand in one place.
Best deal found: The national parks in Colorado are incredible deals. Rocky Mountain National Park and the Great Sand Dunes have some of the country’s most incredible scenery for merely a few dollars per day.

Destination: Grand Canyon, AZ
About this photo: I found out after we returned home that Neal Boortz and crew were actually on the river while I was a “rimmer” shooting pictures that day, May 28, 2009!
Best deal found: I was able to get a Dodge Nitro 4WD in Las Vegas for about $280.00 for 8 days. I am convinced everyone should rent a 4WD vehicle when going out west due to the many great places that can only be accessed via an off road vehicle. Just take care of it to avoid extra charges!

Destination: Lima Peru – April 2009
About this photo: My wife putting on her makeup at Machupicchu. After all, if you’re going to be photographed alongside ancient ruins you want to look your best. Right?
Best deal found: Delta RT Las Vegas to Lima Peru $637 per person. We used Rebtel for phone calls back to the U.S. using their smart call method we paid $0.00 per minute international rate – no computer needed! Domino’s pizza in Lima was way better than Domino’s in the U.S. and a little cheaper too!

Destination: Grand Tetons
About this photo: Finally a sunny day in the Grand Tetons! This is photographed on the Jenny Lake Scenic Drive. We had been through snow storms in Yellowstone and cloudy, rainy days in the Grand Tetons and this day, the sun was out and beautiful!!!
Best deal found: Clark Howard’s travel tip to book the Grand Teton Lodge for early June ’09 and receive a $100 Resort Credit!!!! It covered several of our meals! When I booked in March, they said they hadn’t published it yet any where and how did I know about it?? I told them Clark Howard!!

Destination: Key West, Florida
About this photo: My Fiance and I went to The Keys when we were first dating. This was our first vacation together. I had never seen really blue water before and i was floored of all the colors! The funny thing was we had more fun pulling over on the side of the road taking pictures, including this one than we did in key west.
Best deal found: We went during the off season(Sept 2006), so of course the resort (Key Largo Resort at Manatee Bay) we stayed at was much cheaper. Also they just had remodeled the entire resort so the rooms were so beautiful and the toiletries were from Bath & body works (something new they were trying out) which is a plus for us women. Also they built a new Starbucks in the hotel which was a plus for us also. At the time they were still working on the internet in the rooms, so they had a computer at check in, we could conveniently use at our leisurely. We both plan to go back in the off season this year again for our honeymoon. I’m hoping the snorkeling packages they offered than are still real cheap like they were then.

Destination: Knoxville, TN
About this photo: Twelve players from Providence Christian Academy boy’s soccer team, three dads and one coach went to Knoxville to replace the roof on a home belonging to a missionary to Spain. The size of the roof was 3,800 square feet. In the picture are six soccer players working and the fat guy, well, he is supervising.
Best deal found: The estimated cost to replace the roof was $8,000.00 with the replacement of 16 sheets of plywood. With all the donated material, tools, money and labor the actual cost was less than $500.00.

Destination: Okaloosa Island, FL
About this photo: Sunrise from highrise condo balcony overlooking the bay at Destin West Resort. Every condo has a direct view of the bay with beach access on opposite side of Hwy 98. The property has 7 pools and a lazy river with access to adjacent Ramada Inn’s kids water play area, pools and restaurant with room service.
Best deal found: I found this condo for rent on Craigslist and rented it through a local Atlantan. Everything went smooth and the owner was even willing to negotiate the weekly rent.
