Destination: Paris, France
Best deal found: I booked a nice hotel (Hotel Eiffel Seine) on the Seine river about two blocks away from the Eiffel Tower. The Metros (subways) going east/west and north/south were directly across the street. It was the perfect location for a newbie like me going to Paris. Everywhere we went: Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Élysées, Hôtel des Invalides/Napoleon’s Tomb, Musée du Louvre, Chateau de Versailles, Musée d’Orsay, Notre Dame and the Latin Quarter, and, Sacré-Coeur Basilica and Montmartre where easily accessible from our hotel doorstep because of the Metro. We booked the hotel on their website for only 110 Euros a night when the regular price was 180-200 Euros. We got the special price because we booked more than three nights. The special was in an obscure location on the website. All of the travel sites were much higher for the same hotel. Normally the travel sites are cheaper than the hotel’s site, but it’s the opposite for European hotels. Go directly to the hotel’s web site and look for deals.

Submitted by: Jen H.
Destination: Rome, Italy
Best deal found: The best deals were found through research BEFORE our trip: Rick Steves has free audio guides for multiple tourist sights in Rome and Florence. Downloading this on our mp3 player saved us the money from renting them (at 5-10Euro a pop), and the time it took to stand in the line to rent them (which made it worth it for that reason alone!). My husband and I were able to borrow Verizon global phones for $10 for the two of us which was awesome and helpful the few times we needed to contact each other. Also, we checked and checked every traveling sight out there and got tickets to Europe for $730 dollars on expedia which was $500 less than we found everywhere else… We had an awesome trip and these deals allowed us to do more than we could have imagined!
