New Downtown-Toronto Airport Train
Starting on June 6, the Union Pearson Express will travel between Toronto’s Union Station and Terminal 1 at Toronto Pearson airport every 15 minutes and will make the 15.5-mile journey in 25 minutes. The new express train is a welcome for the more than 36 million passengers that pass through Canada’s busiest airport. One-way fares start from about $23 ($27.50 CAD), with discounts available for seniors, students, families, round-trip journeys, and for those with long layovers who want to spend some time in the city. Services include complimentary WiFi on the trains and in the stations and passengers will be able to check-in for their flights and print baggage tags at Union Station. Onboard, there will be luggage racks and seats with tray tables and power outlets. The June roll-out of Union Pearson Express service is timed to coincide with Toronto’s hosting of the 2015 Pan American Games (July 10-26) and Parapan American Games (August 7-15), held every four years in the year preceding the Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games.

Memorial Day Weekend: Denver-style
Denver will offer the largest and most fun collection of Memorial Day events with a wide assortment of happenings ranging from rock concerts to art festivals, from baseball to Batman. Many of the events are free. The Downtown will be packed with food trucks, free music, art displays, and very colorful crowds, all blending with the normal offerings of museums, bars, breweries and shops.

  • May 23: 7th Annual Denver Day of Rock (free!) with five stages and 25 bands along the 16th Street Mall (there are 42 outdoor cafes on the 16th Street Mall alone).
  • May 23-25: Denver Comic Con at the Colorado Convention Center with the best in popular television shows, movies, Japanese animation, cosplay, toys, gaming, sci-fi/fantasy, and of course… comic books. Even without tickets, the area in front of the convention center along 14th Street will be filled with colorful characters willing to pose for photos.
  • May 22-24: Downtown Denver Arts Festival (free!) will be staged at the Denver Performing Arts Complex with more than 150 of Colorado’s best artists.
  • May 23: The Big Wonderful is a fun and lively outdoor sustainable market that blends food and a flea market with entertainment. The Big Wonderful features a large, outdoor craft beer and cocktail garden built out of storage containers, beach volleyball, an urban farm and an entertainment stage — all family-friendly.
  • May 23: Opening weekend of Water World, Denver’s 67-acre water park, home to more than 65 aquatic attractions, including a lazy river, an ocean wave pool and a ‘Warp Speed’ waterslide ($39.99 General Admission)
  • May 24: Red Dirt on the Rocks at the Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre in Morrison. The concert features the rootsy country rock of the Randy Rogers Band and the Casey Donahew Band ($37.50 advance, $42.50 day of show.

Take a break from all the action at one of the many huge rooftop cafes in Denver with city views and the snowcapped Rocky Mountains: Ale House at Amato’s, ViewHouse, LoDo’s Bar & Grill, Ignite, the Tavern Downtown, and Linger and Lola. Denver has one of the largest bike trail networks in America — some 850 miles of paved, off-street bike trails. A perfect way to explore the system is on Denver B-cycle, which was the first bike sharing program in America. More than 700 sturdy, red Trek bikes are available at 84 stations across the city. Swipe a credit card, and for just $9 a day, all rides of half hour or less are free. Hop on, pedal across town, and leave the bike at another station and explore the city.
