Street Art
Local artists create eye-catching murals on buildings in downtown St. Pete Clearwater. The destination along Florida’s Gulf Coast is drawing comparisons to Wynwood in Miami and is now home to over 30 urban murals around the Central Arts and Warehouse Districts. First commissioned by local non-profit Florida Craftsmen to deter graffiti artists from spray-painting the back walls of businesses, these murals are now part of weekly walking tours where participants will hear the stories behind the creation of over 30 works of art in a four block radius. Many of the tours will be led by the mural artists themselves. Walking Mural Tours take place on Saturday mornings from 10-11:30 a.m. from Florida Craftsmen at 501 Central Ave. in St. Pete. A large portion of the proceeds – $19 adults, $11 ages 6-18 (free under 5) – goes back to the artists to help them fund more mural projects. Home to a total of 31 museums including the Dali Museum, St. Pete Clearwater is an epicenter of art and culture from around the world and these new murals are helping to further that reputation.
