TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

Canada Celebrates
Canada will celebrate it’s 150th birthday on July 1, 2017 and the country’s park service marks its 100th birthday. To celebrate, Canada invites us to enjoy a free Discovery Pass to visit its geographically diverse national parks across the country’s 13 provinces for the entire year.
The pass, which you have to register for online, offers visitors access to 171 national parks, historic sites, and marine conservation areas from the Pacific to the Atlantic to the Arctic. You’ll only need one per car, which means you’re saving big time on passes that usually cost around $7 per person or annual passes that can cost $50 per person. Costs for camping or tours with park rangers still apply.

Banff National Park, Canada’s first national park with stunning views of the Canadian Rockies.
Cape Breton Highlands National Park on the other coast in Nova Scotia is known for its world-class whale watching from MacKenzie Mountain and miles of coastal hiking paths.
So far north its name means ‘land that never melts,’ you’ll find Auyuittuq National Park, a landscape filled with glaciers, icy valleys, and midnight suns from July to September.
And smack-dab in the middle of Canada’s 3.855 million square miles is Grasslands National Park, one of the world’s largest dark-sky preserves, where there’s so little light pollution you can see a blanket of stars every cloudless night.
U.S. citizens need a passport or passport card to enter/depart Canada.

Cheers, Mickey!
Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom will begin serving alcohol on Friday, December 23. Tony’s Town Square Restaurant, Liberty Tree Tavern, Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen and Cinderella’s Royal Table will start serving beer and wine during lunch and dinner.
The four establishments adding alcohol will join the Be Our Guest Restaurant, which became the first in the Magic Kingdom to serve beer and wine in 2012.
Only full-service restaurants at Disney World will serve alcohol, and there will continue to be no standalone bars or to-go options.
Other parks in the Disney Parks portfolio like Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and Epcot already serve alcohol, as do the company’s biggest local competitors – Universal Orlando and SeaWorld Orlando.
Walt Disney was against alcohol being served in Magic Kingdom, but other parks have set a precedent that excessive drinking and unruly behavior would not be an issue.

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
