NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.

Best Value Hotel
TripAdvisor has recently announced the 10 Best Value Hotels in the U.S. based on traveler reviews and TripAdvisor price comparison of 200 booking sites. To qualify as a Best Value Hotel, a property must have at least 3.5 stars and four bubbles on TripAdvisor, offer rates at least 20% below the city average and that have a combination of quality rooms and amenities, and a great location. Another qualifier is for the property to be trendy or fun with local flavor.
Case in point: Hacienda Del Sol Guest Ranch Resort in Tucson, Arizona. A TripAdvisor reviewer commented, “The hotel represents great value for what you’re getting, compared to just slightly cheaper places with no local character.”
Formerly a prestigious school, the resort once hosted Hollywood icons Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy and John Wayne. It’s set on 39 acres in the Catalina foothills and is just over five miles from Sabino Canyon. Guest rooms and casitas have a rustic-chic/hacienda-style and are surrounded by gardens. Suites and casitas have microwaves and private patios; some have fireplaces.
Onsite is an upscale restaurant with an expansive wine cellar, a patio, and a lounge area.
From $169.

North Pole by Rail
Experience the magic of the holiday season at The Chattanoogan hotel. The upscale hotel in downtown Chattanooga offers an overnight package and family-friendly holiday events and activities.
Enjoy a 75-minute train journey aboard the Tennessee Valley Railroad on the North Pole Limited Package. The ride is an imaginary journey to the North Pole and along the way, guests are treated to refreshments, storytelling, and sing-a-longs. As the Christmas train gently rolls down the rails, a number of lighted displays can be seen outside. Once the train pulls into the North Pole, Santa boards the train for a visit and gives children a keepsake gift. Rates from $175 (December 15-23) include tickets aboard the North Pole train ride; deluxe overnight accommodations; breakfast in the hotel’s Broad Street Grille; a welcome treat with hand-made cookies and hot cocoa; and valet parking.
The upscale Chattanoogan features three dining establishments and a day spa. It’s located within a two-hour drive from Atlanta and within walking distance of Chattanooga museums, galleries, shops, restaurants and the Tennessee Aquarium.
