TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

When in Rome
The Colosseum is spectacular at any hour, but a new tour lets you experience it after dark.
Tours start at the Piazza Venezia, where participants get a thorough education in Ancient Rome’s imperial history and tour through the Roman Forum, Capitoline Hill, and Via dei Fori Imperiali. Once at the Colosseum, get a rare gladiator’s view of the arena from the main wooden stage.
The new Under the Moon tour from Italian tour company Roma Experience includes access to restricted areas of the iconic structure, including the arena stage and underground dungeons where animals and gladiators waited their turn to fight in the arena. You’ll also be able to see the wooden elevator and trap door, whereby they were raised from the dungeon up to the main arena.
This VIP tour is limited to 25 participants. Per person rates from $86.

New Attractions
The Banks in Cincinnati is located along the Ohio River between Great American Ball Park, Paul Brown Stadium and the new 45- acre Phyllis W. Smale Riverfront Park. There’s something for everyone, from family-friendly restaurants to sports-friendly bars and dining and nightlife options. It’s newest (temporary) attraction opens today – the 150-foot SkyStar observation wheel. Visitors can take the 12-minute ride in one of the 36 enclosed gondolas (holds up to six passengers).
SkyStar’s presence will overlap with Oktoberfest Zinzinnati, the Ale to the Queen City Thanksgiving weekend craft beer festival, Bud Light Tailgate Zone pre-game Bengals parties and more.
The wheel at The Banks will operate through December 2, seven days a week. Tickets are $12.50.
______
Miss Toys R Us? Iconic toy brand FAO Schwarz is opening a store in Rockefeller Plaza in time for holiday shopping this year.
The famous flagship store on 5th avenue closed in 2015 and the new store will open about 5 blocks south of the old one.
The store will be experiential, featuring product demonstrations with employees, magicians, and employees dressed up as characters, such as toy soldiers.
The Rockefeller Plaza FAO location is planned to be just the first in a string of stores. A smaller location at LaGuardia Airport is slated to open this year, and in China in the future.
