TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

When to Buy International Tickets
Every year, CheapAir.com analyzes hundreds of millions of domestic and international airfares to reveal the best time to buy an international ticket. In it’s most comprehensive study to date, a total of 917,000,000 airfares were reviewed, including fares covering more than 1,000,000 international trips over the last year. These airfares covered more than 3,000 international markets.
CheapAir.com identified the best day to buy a ticket in the different regions around the world with the “prime booking window” for each region. Shoppers will want to buy in the early part of the prime booking window, or in some cases even earlier. Otherwise, use the prime booking window as a good estimate of when it will make the best sense to buy.

The study also looked at whether traveling in certain seasons will impact a purchase, and which travel months had the highest and lowest airline ticket prices for each region.
As an example, here is a breakdown of the average number of days before departure that yields the lowest airline ticket price for U.S. travelers heading to Europe:
Prime Booking Window: About 1.5 months to a little more than 8 months
Best time to buy: 160 days from your travel date
Average airfare: $1,151
Cheapest month to travel: March (average savings of $371 dollars per ticket)
Most expensive month to travel: July
Least expensive days of week to fly: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

New Museums in Europe
A new museum has opened in Warsaw devoted to Polish vodka, a 500-year-old national tradition and one of the country’s best-known exports. The national drink of Poland is an essential component of Poland’s heritage and the Poles were the first to produce it (there’s a point of dispute with Russia on this).
The Polish Vodka Museum is in a former 19th-century vodka factory that is part of an industrial area undergoing revitalization and gentrification.
Tickets prices start from 40 PLN, or about $11. Other ticket purchase options (to 99 PLN, up to $27) for a Special Night Ticket, VIP ticket, Connoisseur tasting, Polish Vodka Cocktails, Food Pairing with Polish Vodka and for the History of Polish Vodka. Na Zdrowie!
______
Antwerp, Belgium, long known as the world’s greatest diamond city now has a new museum to go with a vibrant diamond trading scene that goes back six centuries.
The DIVA Museum highlights the beauty and dazzle of the precious stones and the jewelry and silverware they have adorned through the ages – from diamond-encrusted boots to a diamond-adorned tennis racket and historical pieces. The museum also teaches visitors about the history of diamonds and jewelry-making.
DIVA is ‘cashless’. Online tickets are €10 adults, or about $11.50. Closed Wednesdays.
