Airline News
Southwest Airlines has opened its booking schedule for travel through January 6.

Mississippi’s Tunica airport is bringing back regularly scheduled air service, with flights to Atlanta, Charlotte, Orlando and Tampa/St. Petersburg.
The last time Tunica had similar air service was in 2011. That year, the city offered AirTran Airways flights to Atlanta as well as Vision Air service to Destin, Florida.
Florida-based Ashley Air and Travel will begin to offer the flights July 1.
Ashley’s 50-passenger ERJ145 jet aircraft will operate once daily Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Tunica to Atlanta or Tampa (PIE); Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday to Charlotte or Orlando.
Tunica is located about an hour’s drive southwest of Memphis and is known for its gaming casinos and entertainment venues with headliner performances.

Thailand Tourists
Maya Bay in Thailand, a strong contender for the world’s most celebrated beach, has closed for a four-month period in a bid to reverse damage to the surrounding coral reef.
The idyllic cove that starred in The Beach, Danny Boyle’s adaptation of Alex Garland’s novel about the search for untouched backpacker paradise, has long been the victim of its own fame. The film encouraged waves of tourists to visit the once little-known Phi Phi Islands, where Maya Bay is located, and the sheltered strip of sand is now a far cry from the unspoiled utopia depicted on the big screen.
As many as 5,000 people arrive each day on boat trips from the bustling mainland resorts of Krabi and Phuket, but fears about damage to the local reefs have finally spurred local authorities into action and tourists will be prevented from visiting through September 30 to let the corals recover.
According to research, 72% of Thailand’s coral reef has been devastated, up from just 30% a decade ago, with polluted water from seaside hotels, the dumping of plastic waste and damage from boat anchors all to blame.
Few countries have experienced a bigger tourism boom over the past two decades than Thailand. Around 7.8 million international travelers visited the country in 1998. Fast forward to last year and that figure had shot up to almost 35 million.

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
