NPS Update
The National Park Service plans to more than double the peak-season entrance fees at 17 of its most popular parks, including Acadia, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Denali, Glacier, Grand Canyon, Grand Teton, Joshua Tree, Mount Rainier, Rocky Mountain, Olympic, Sequoia and Kings Canyon, Shenandoah, Yellowstone, Yosemite and Zion, as early as May 1. The proposal, which is expected to be approved by the NPS, will hike fees from about $25-$30 per carload to $70 during the park’s busiest five months. The fee for motorcycles would rise to $50 from $25, while pedestrians and cyclists would be charged $30, up from $15.
However, the Trump administration’s proposal to increase entrance fees landed with a thud when it was presented in November, and park officials say they are now reconsidering it.
Only 118 of the country’s 417 national park sites charge an entrance fee, so most will still be free to enter.
If you frequent national parks that charge admission, consider buying an annual pass ($80 at federal recreation sites or $85 at
Park visitors who are 62 or older can purchase a lifetime pass for $80 in person or $90 online or by mail.
Current members of the military and their dependents can receive a free annual pass by showing a military ID at a federal recreation site that issues passes.
If you missed the April 21 fee-free day in our national parks, mark your calendars for the next dates when the entrance fee is free to everyone:
September 22: National Public Lands Day
November 11: Veterans Day

Biking Italian-Style
A stunning new floating bicycle path is under construction along Italy’s Lake Garda. The path has already been called Europe’s most beautiful bike ride and when complete, the path will measure nearly 87 miles, circling the entirety of the lake.
Built off the side of the surrounding cliffs, and in some places even skimming the surface of the water, the idea is to give cyclists the sensation of floating or flying over the lake.
The project is aimed at boosting the growing sector of bike tourism in Italy, which already draws around 220,000 visitors to the country each year.
It will also allow tourists to get a new perspective on one of the country’s most loved sites, and bring them to some of the lesser visited villages in the area.
The route is intended to suit all levels of cycling ability, though some stretches will be harder than others and it will be possible to take alternative methods of transport, such as boats, to bypass the toughest uphill parts of the journey.
Some parts of the route are already in place, but anyone hoping to complete the full circuit still has a while to wait until 2021.
Have a peek at the current construction and future concept at YouTube.
