Kauai Update
More than 28 inches of rain fell in one 24-hour period over the past weekend on the island of Kauai.
Sue Kanoho, the executive director for the Kauai Visitors Bureau, says the most important thing is that visitors understand which side of the island is challenged. It’s the northernmost part of Kauai, specifically Haena and Wainiha.
More than 220 residents from the Haena and Wainiha area had to be airlifted by the U.S. Army and National Guard on Tuesday.
What’s affected? Kauai’s main road, Kuhio Highway, is still closed. The island’s Weke Road “is no more” and Hanalei Pier is no water and all sand. The popular Kalalau Trail tourist destination can’t be hiked at the moment, among other closures.
Guests headed to the south of the island such as Kapaa or Poipu will not be affected by any closures.
Most airlines are offering travel waivers to those who booked flights to Kauai.

Travel Warning
The State Department issued new travel warnings for parts of Mexico on Wednesday, advising American travelers to entirely avoid five regions due to crime.
The advisory tells Americans “do not travel” to the five Mexican coastal states of Sinaloa, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, and Tamaulipas. It also suggests exercising “increased caution” or “reconsider travel” to other parts of the country.
The U.S. deemed these five Mexican states as being the most dangerous, as well as the general warnings across the rest of the country. The State Department gave Mexico a level 2 travel warning overall, encouraging travelers to exercise increased caution in general.
“Violent crime, such as homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery, is widespread,” the advisory states.
The latest advisory gives the five Mexican states the same warning level as risky travel destinations like Syria, Yemen and Somalia.
