Cruise Tips Rising
Beginning May 1, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line will hike daily fees by more than 4% to $13.50 per person, per day for passengers staying in most cabins. Passengers in suites will pay $16.50 per person, per day.  This hike is the second following an 8% increase on June 1, 2015.
That means that a family of four will pay upward of $400 in automatic gratuities on a typical seven-night cruise.
Customers with existing reservations for a future sailing can lock in the current gratuity rates by pre-paying them before April 14.
Carnival adds $12 per person, per day in service charges. Holland America and Princess add $12.50 and $12.95, respectively. Norwegian Cruise Line matches Royal Caribbean’s fees.
Many cruise lines now build in gratuities to base cruise fares. Those lines include Azamara, Crystal, Seabourn, Regent, SeaDream and select river cruise lines such as Uniworld, Tauck, and Scenic Cruises.

Check In on Facebook
KLM is paving the way for global travelers with a new check-in option.
Starting today, passengers on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will be able to confirm a flight, check-in for travel, get boarding passes, make itinerary updates, and chat to customer service – all from the Facebook Messenger app.
To encourage users to try the service, people who use KLM on Messenger to receive a booking confirmation, check-in notifications, boarding pass or flight updates through April 20 will automatically be entered into a drawing for two KLM round-trip tickets to their destination of choice.
Facebook is also beta testing a virtual concierge named M, who will be able to book tickets and make travel plans.

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are added during the flight booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
