TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

Spring in Asheville
Biltmore’s gardens celebrate the colorful spring season with Biltmore Blooms, kicking off this weekend, March 19 and running through May 26.
Enjoy tropical orchids in the Conservatory during March. Crocus, forsythia and daffodils are among the first blooms to be sighted in the outdoor gardens, giving way to thousands of tulips in April with a tulip bloom in Biltmore’s Walled Garden pattern beds. May brings irises, roses, and acres of azaleas with mountain laurels and rhododendrons close behind.  Stay up-to-date to plan the perfect time to visit with weekly bloom reports from the estate’s director of horticulture.
A special exhibition running through July 4 is included with regular estate admission: Fashionable Romance: Wedding Gowns in Film.  More than 40 wedding gowns and attire from 19 films such as Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice and Out of Africa are on display in rooms throughout Biltmore House. The exhibition continues in the estate’s Antler Hill Village, featuring wedding fashion and stories from the Vanderbilt family. A highlight includes the first-ever display of the Lee Family wedding veil, worn by Mary Lee Ryan, bride of George Vanderbilt’s grandson. This family heirloom was also worn by Mary Lee Ryan’s cousin Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy when she married John F. Kennedy.

Biltmore’s annual Easter egg hunt takes place on Easter Sunday, March 27, on the front lawn of Biltmore House. Entertainment includes magic shows, music and stories, and photos with the Easter Rabbit. Hunts begin at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Included in regular estate admission.
Moms receive free admission on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8.
Purchase estate admission tickets seven days in advance of your visit to receive $10 off.

New LA Attraction
Los Angeles’s U.S. Bank Tower is the tallest building in the western United States. Beginning June 25, visitors will be able to ride the country’s first glass-enclosed skyslide that careens down 1,000 feet above the ground (from the 70th to the 69th floor).
The attraction is part of a $50 million renovation that will also put a bar and open-air observation deck on the top floors of the 72-story building.
Admission fees will apply for entry into the building — which offers 360-degree views of the San Fernando Valley to Santa Catalina Island.
Building and Skyspace slide ticket options (on sale now) range from $19-$59

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are added during the flight booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
