TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

More Basic Airfares Planned
Changes are coming down the pipeline at American and United Airlines.
American Airlines plans to offer travelers Basic Economy fares later this year. And, United Airlines has recently announced upcoming modifications to fare structures with the introduction of Entry Level pricing (no known launch date).
The no-perks economy airfares will be offered for only a seat on the aircraft. Preferred seat selection, upgrades, checked bags and other perks will be offered at higher rates.
Delta Air Lines began selling the new lower fares last year in an effort to compete with low-cost carriers such as Frontier and Spirit. Delta’s Basic Economy pricing has expanded into a large part of the airline’s network including some international routes.

Easy Flight Check-In
The days preceding a flight can be hectic with planning, packing, and checklists. Why not cross one thing off the to-do list and let a free service automatically check you in online for your flight?
The Lufthansa Innovation Hub, the tech and digital development division of the airline, has designed AirlineCheckins.com, a service for online check-in for flights on more than 100 airlines around the world.
Register on the site and enter all flight confirmations and booking details. AirlineCheckins automatically checks you in for the flights as soon as the check-in period for that particular airline opens, usually between 24 and 72 hours before departure – and it’s ‘usually in the very first minute’ (according to the FAQs section).
Passport details can also be stored to complete the check-in process for international flights.
Passengers can also designate seating preferences so that the site’s service team can reserve whatever available seat most closely matches the request.

Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
