TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

Hotel Brand Breach
The Orlando hotel firm Rosen Hotels & Resorts has warned customers of a data breach on its card payment systems. The infraction was discovered last month after some guests reported unauthorized activity on their accounts. After an investigation, malware was found on the system and ‘in some instances the malware identified payment card data that included cardholder name, card number, expiration date, and internal verification code,’ a Rosen statement said. The malware may have impacted transactions during an 18-month period between September 2, 2014, and February 18, 2016, at its seven Central Florida properties. Rosen is asking customers to monitor their accounts and report any suspicious activity to their bank.

Ride Hong Kong’s ‘Ding Ding’
Locals in Hong Kong refer to the city’s 111-year-old tram as the ‘Ding Ding’, for the sound of its bell.
The company’s regular passenger tram service is a fun and affordable way to get around town — passing by 60 city attractions along the route. The line runs across Hong Kong Island for 30 kilometers, from Kennedy Town in the west to Shau Kei Wan in the east. The longest possible tram ride takes around 90 minutes. Stops are marked by stand-alone green signs with maps. Board through the rear door and pay as you exit through the front. The fare is about $.30 cents per ride (HK$2.30), regardless of the length of the journey.
The tram offers a new TramOramic city introductory tour that runs between Sheung Wan’s Western Market (a historic colonial building) and Causeway Bay (a busy shopping district) through Central (home to many famous skyscrapers) for a mix of old and ultra-modern architecture.
The design of the trams was resurrected from a car from the 1920s with a retro interior and a covered upper deck with a large balcony. The journey takes about an hour.
There are personal audio guides available, broadcasting tales about the tram and the city in eight languages.
The tour includes a free two-day pass, which allows unlimited travel around the city by tram.
The TramOramic Tour departs six times daily and costs $10.95 per adult (HK$95) and $7.50 ages 4-11 (HK$65).

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are added during the flight booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.

SPECIAL HOTEL & RESORT DEALS

A ‘Villa Golf’ package from the Kiawah Island Golf Resort includes accommodations in a two-bedroom West Beach Scenic View Resort Villa — suitable for four golfers. Also included is a round of golf per day. Choose from one of five incredible golf courses and play where the pros play—including the legendary Ocean Course (surcharge applies), host of the 1991 Ryder Cup and 2012 PGA Championship. Rates from $222 per person, per night on stays through May 29.
The resort is located on a beautiful barrier island just a few miles from historic Charleston, South Carolina.
Kiawah is rated the Best U.S. Golf Resort in addition to the Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence – Most Excellent Golf Resort.
Additional resort amenities include 24 Har-Tru, clay and hard courts and instructional programs offered at the #1 Tennis Resort in the World (as ranked by tennisresortsonline.com).
The island voted ‘No. 1 island to visit in the U.S. mainland’ by Conde Nast Traveler, is a kayaking paradise and popular for biking and nature trails.

Play in PEI
Prince Edward Island (PEI) is one of four Atlantic provinces located on Canada’s east coast. The island’s rich culture and heritage offer much to be seen and explored. Experience miles of beautiful sandy beaches (clamming!) and green pastoral landscapes (the fictional home of Ann of Green Gables). Spring and summer are a time of festivals that celebrate music and art and impressive theatrical productions.
A unique treat for visitors is the chance to do more than just witness the island way of life — you can live it with real experiences. For instance, learn about the lobster industry with an adventure on an authentic lobster boat and crew (July-August, $45 or $85 with lobster dinner).  Beat the rush and reserve accommodations for the upcoming summer. The island’s ‘The Vacation the Kids Took Over’ packages offer a variety of three-night packages at various cottages and resorts for stays between June 18 and September 1. An example: A three-night stay in a two-bedroom chalet at the four-star Fairways Cottages is $580 ($789 CDN), plus taxes. The deal includes a four-day, unlimited entrance pass to the best area family attractions and beaches for a family of four.
Other vacation packages are offered for 2.5- and 3-star cottages, motels and campgrounds.
Additional package deals are themed for golf, family, romance, reunions and island traditions.
