TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

New Disney Happenings
Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom will launch a new nighttime light show along with nighttime safaris April 22.
The new Animal Kingdom offerings will begin 15 to 20 minutes after sunset and into the evening, with the park staying open some nights as late as 11:30 p.m.
The park has brought in new species of nocturnal animals for the nighttime safaris, including African painted dogs and hyenas.
The new nighttime activities will also include a street party with musicians, storytellers, acrobats and more.

The new after-dark light show, called ‘Rivers of Light,’ will be an immersive show combining live performances, floating lanterns, special effects and other imagery, with guests seated around a stage that consists of a body of water.
Animal Kingdom’s rides, including Expedition Everest, Dinosaur and Kali River Rapids, will also stay open after dark.
A new restaurant, Tiffins, is also opening in Animal Kingdom.
The changes at Animal Kingdom are among a number of new offerings at Walt Disney World scheduled to unfold over the next few months:
New shops opening in Disney Springs, a dining and retail attraction
A new Frozen Ever After boat ride opening at Epcot’s Norway Pavilion based on the hit movie ‘Frozen’
A new Soarin’ Around the World attraction at Epcot
A new ‘Star Wars’-themed attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, including the just-opened ‘Star Wars’ Launch Bay featuring artifacts and characters

Drinks on KLM!
KLM, Holland’s national carrier, now offers a Layover With a Local program, which pairs travelers in transit for over six hours at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport with Amsterdam locals. The greeter will show the traveler a glimpse of the city center — and even buy the first round of drinks.
To qualify, download KLM’s app and answer a few questions about your interests (or connect to their Facebook account). You’ll them be paired up with one of KLM’s pre-vetted Amsterdam locals. Many of the locals are language students eager to try out their English or expats who want to connect with someone from back home. Wine lovers are paired up with other wine lovers while people interested in art might be matched up with someone who works in Amsterdam’s culture scene.
The program is offered to ticketed KLM travelers departing the U.S. from March 22 through May 31.
Icelandair also offers the ‘Stopover Buddy’ option — a one-day tour with an Icelandair employee based on Lifestyle, Nature, Health, Culture, Food and Adventure themes. The service is free of charge.

Smoking at ATL
There are two smoking areas at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport — Gordon Biersch and TAP A Gastro Pub — both located on Concourse A.
Now there’s a third spot to take a smoke. ATL’s first hookah bar, The Terrapin Tap House Cigar and Smoke Lounge located on Concourse D.
The bar sells craft beers, sandwiches, brats, salads — and more than a dozen brands of cigars and a vast selection of shisha hookah tobacco flavors.

Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
