TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

It’s Cherry Blossom Time!
The organizers of the National Cherry Blossom Festival have announced the peak bloom dates for the blossoms in Washington D.C. — it’s March 31 to April 3.
One of this year’s signature events, the Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival, has to move off Pennsylvania Avenue NW this year and for the foreseeable future due to construction surrounding the Trump International Hotel (in the Old Post Office Pavilion at 12th and Penn; expected open date is September). The festival will be held on April 16 (10:30A-6P) at M Street and New Jersey Avenue SE. Tickets from $8.
That same date, April 16, is also the day of the National Cherry Blossom Parade on Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Streets NW (10A-noon). Tickets start at $20.

Preferred Airlines at Airfarewatchdog
Airfarewatchdog, an inclusive source of airfare deals, now offers a customized fare alert tool for fliers. The site provides airfare deals both on the site and as part of a free email alert service that now lets subscribers see fares only on airlines they prefer to fly.
Airfarewatchdog founder George said, ‘…the ability to create email filters by specific airline has been lacking until now. Many consumers simply refuse to fly on certain airlines or are loyal not just to an alliance, but to a specific airline. This new feature on Airfarewatchdog caters to these preferences.’
Airfarewatchdog shows fares on every airline departing from the U.S. and Canada, including Southwest. And until now, no major app or airfare email service has allowed consumers to avoid airlines that they prefer not to fly when subscribing to fare alerts.
Sign up free to receive airfare notifications/changes at Airfarewatchdog.com. Emailed and tweeted alerts are the most effective way to catch an unadvertised airfare bargain, especially since there is no ‘magic’ time of day or day of the week to buy the cheapest airfares.

Gathering of Nations
The world’s largest gathering of Native American and indigenous people takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 28-30.
The 33rd Annual Gathering of Nations, considered the most prominent Native American powwow in the world, will host tens of thousands of people and more than 700 tribes from throughout the United States, Canada, and around the world.
The three-day event will include more than 3,000 traditional Native American dancers and 50 drum groups competing, and more than 800 Native American artisans, craftsmen, and traders displaying and selling their work. In addition, more than 30 contemporary indigenous music groups will be performing a wide variety of musical genres. Vendors in the Native Food Court will offer guests a large selection of food choices ranging between southwestern-style cuisine and traditional Native American fare.
General admission tickets cost $18 per day or $36 for a two-day pass. VIP Club Level tickets are available for $65 (at the door).
Fans of the Gathering of Nations can now listen to the event on iHeartRadio.

Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are added during the flight booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
