TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

Coastal Vacation Rentals
Discover the authentic culture of the Lowcountry in South Carolina – all along the coast and with no booking fees.
From Isle of Palms and Folly Beach near Charleston to the sea islands of Kiawah Island and Hilton Head, search and book vacation rentals directly with the owner of the property or the property manager at TripsIn.com.
Similar to Airbnb, TripsIn.com will soon launch in other vacation spots around the world. Currently, the site offers numerous property rentals in Colorado and Mexico.

Disney’s MagicBands
The My Disney Experience is an online and mobile app that helps guests plan their trips to the theme park resort and manage their visits while on property. Guests wear a waterproof MagicBand bracelet embedded with an RFID chip that enables users to electronically store park ticket info, hotel reservations, credit card data, and more. Unique features include booking a reservation for one-on-one time with characters, rides, shows and parade viewing areas.

But the $1 billion project has been recently tweaked with new features such as checking in to the resort hotels or bypassing lines at quick-service restaurants. Also, the system will allow users to a choice of times to book an attraction or ride vs the former take it or leave it time of day.
Guests now have the convenience of making more than three day-of reservations by using the app.  Previously, visitors had to go to in-park kiosks to make more than three FastPass+ selections.
Extra perks of the My Disney Experience phone app: Access show times, restroom locations, real-time waits for standby lines at rides, or view menus and make reservations at table-service restaurants.
At Disney World’s 23 quick-service restaurants, one member of a park posse typically hops into a line to order the food, while the rest of the group looks for an open table. Mobile orders, which Disney World introduced last May at the Satu’li Canteen in Pandora – The World of Avatar, enables visitors to select and pay for meals in advance by using the phone app. By tapping the “I’m Here” button on the phone, the kitchen starts to prepare the orders. When the meals are ready, a message is sent out to pick it up.
The app also makes it possible to skip the hotel registration desk line altogether. When reservations are made far enough in advance, the resort will mail the MagicBands (included with room rates). Upon arrival at the hotel, the app confirms the check-in, sends a message with the room number. Then open the door with the MagicBand.
Disney visitors not staying at a Disney hotel have the option of purchasing the bands (from $12.99), although the only use would be for park tickets and FastPass+ selections.

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
