TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

World Trade Center Station
A new $4 billion dollar transit hub that was built around, beneath and above an existing, still-operating subway line will open on March 3 at the World Trade Center in New York. The WTC station will connect to 11 subways and PATH trains and offer access to most of the city’s bus and ferry lines. It’s been called the equivalent of having Grand Central, Times Square, and Penn Station in one place.
The transit hub evokes a bird in flight and the station’s grand hall, called the Oculus, was built precisely to allow the sun to come in exactly through an opening in the roof on September 11 at 10:28 a.m. when the last WTC tower fell in 2001.

The new hub will open in phases as retail space on the main floor will open in late spring.
WTC station is expected to serve nearly a quarter of a million commuters each day.
The building’s controversial cost of $4 billion dollars is about the same cost of constructing the adjoining, 104-story One World Trade Center.

New Disney Pricing
Disney is launching a new ticket pricing policy that will reduce admission costs on low-demand days and hike ticket prices at more popular times, such as spring break. Under the new policy, each day on the calendar will be designated a ‘value’ day, a ‘regular’ day or a ‘peak’ day. The new adult ticket price will be $95 for a value day, $105 for a regular day and $119 for a peak day.
Over a 12-month period, 30% of the days will be ‘value’ days, 44% will be ‘regular’ days and 26% will be ‘peak’ days.
Universal Studios had already changed to a variable pricing system in anticipation of the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction on April 7.
Tickets to Universal Studios on a peak-demand day is $95, but visitors who buy tickets for low-demand days can save up to $20 a ticket over the regular gate price.

Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are added during the flight booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
