TRAVEL TIPS & TIDBITS

New Florida Rail Line
Summer is the target date for Florida’s Brightline passenger-rail service between W. Palm Beach and Miami with a stop in Ft. Lauderdale. Brightline service will launch between Miami and W. Palm Beach in 2017, with service from Miami to Orlando following (track work for the second phase of the project, which runs between West Palm Beach and Orlando, has not yet begun).

Once complete, Brightline plans to run 16 northbound and 16 southbound trips each day between Miami and Orlando with stops in West Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale. The 235-mile trip is expected to take about 3 hours.
Travelers will be able to choose between two levels of car: the Smart Coach, which has two-by-two seat configuration and Select Coach, which features wider seats, free snacks, alcoholic beverages, and two-by-one seating, allowing for solo seating on one side of the aisle. Ticket prices are yet to be announced but expect to see various ticket packages.
Each Brightline train car is equipped with free on-board WiFi – powerful enough to stream TV shows and movies, or play online games. Each set of seats will be equipped with multiple electrical and USB outlets. The bathrooms on the Brightline train are mostly touchless — toilets flush with the wave of your hand, and the sink and soap also are motion-activated.

Modular Hotels
A 20-story, 300-room CitizenM hotel in New York City’s Lower East Side, was constructed in Poland and shipped to 185 Bowery in 210 pieces.
The high-rise, more than half complete, will be the largest permanent modular hotel project ever in NYC.
CitizenM, which has nine hotels operating and 14 in development, has used modular construction to build the majority of its properties in Europe, where the technique is widespread. That technique is stacking sealed, factory-made units containing finished hotel rooms.
Though not necessarily cheaper, the technology saves time, improves quality control and reduces construction nuisances like traffic snarls and general disruption in the neighborhood.
The Bowery project, which began in late November and is expected to take from three to four months to complete (about half the time traditional construction would have required).

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
