Museum Barberini, Potsdam, Germany:
Old Masters to contemporary art in a newly reconstructed palace in the city’s already impressive historic center. Opening late January.
Zeitz MOCAA, Cape Town: This contemporary art museum is the largest to open on the continent for over a century. The museum, featuring works created since year 2000 will be inside an 187-foot-high Grain Silo, a towering reminder of Cape Town’s industrial heritage. Opens September 23.
National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens: Its permanent collection is set to be unveiled in autumn when the museum is expected to finally open in its entirety.
Museum MACAN, Jakarta, Indonesia: Indonesia’s first museum dedicated to international modern art this year.
Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles: The ICA LA is a rebranding and rehousing of the Santa Monica Museum of Art in downtown LA arts district. Opens in autumn.
Victoria & Albert Museum, London: The largest scheme the museum has undertaken in 100 years will consist of a new temporary exhibition space, the Sainsbury’s Gallery, the Sackler Courtyard and a grand new entrance, the Blavatnik Hall. The open courtyard will reveal a part of the historical facade of the museum’s west side to the public for the first time.
Design Society, Shenzhèn, China: London’s V&A collaborates with China to create a new cultural hub in Shenzhèn, including a theater, shops and a roof garden. The V&A will also have its own gallery within it, focusing on 20th- and 21st-century design.
Museum of the American Revolution, Philadelphia: Thousands of objects, artworks, manuscripts and artifacts exhibited will be presented on a chronological journey, from the roots of resistance to the legacy of its outcome. Opens April 19.
Musées Yves Saint Laurent, Paris and Marrakech: The two museums will house the thousands of garments, accessories, sketches, photographs and objects that represent his life’s work. The Parisian museum will be in the historical couture house at 5 avenue Marceau. The Marrakech museum is an impressive new build near Jardin Majorelle, a garden long associated with the designer. Opening April.
Louvre Abu Dhabi, UAE: The museum “city” consists of a series of white buildings inspired by the Arab medina. Opens mid-2017.

London’s Guard Changes
The Changing the Guard ceremony at Buckingham Palace is switching days as part of tightened security measures. Starting January 16, the spectacle will be held on the same days each week – Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays – rather than alternate days between 10:15A and 11:45A.
From April to July, the Changing the Guard takes place every day.
The popular spectacle, which attracts thousands of tourists every year, sees the Old Guard – the soldiers currently on duty – formally hand over responsibilities to the New Guard, usually accompanied by a band or a corps of drums. The guardsmen, typically from the Household Division, are identifiable by their distinctive red tunics and bearskin hats. The scale of the ceremony is governed by the Queen’s presence. If the Royal Standard is flying above the Palace, the Queen is in residence and the number of sentries is increased.

NOTE: Airline fees can and often do exceed the cost of your flight! Additional charges now apply to budget and sale rates on most airlines for a carry-on bag, checked baggage and advance seat assignments. The least expensive fees are charged when these options are purchased during the ticket booking process. Fees climb higher after flights are reserved and even higher when adding these options at airport check-in. Kayak offers the most up-to-date Fees Chart for all domestic and international airlines.
