We’ve entered the sweet season of travel: the shoulder season that precedes the busy holiday period. It’s the time for bargains and we’ve hand-picked some top hotel and resort deals from around the U.S. for your fall travel pleasure.

Recently accepted into National Geographic’s Unique Lodges of the World for their commitment to environmental and economic sustainability, the newly renovated Eagle Cottages at the 6,150-acre Gulf State Park in Alabama offer spacious accommodations along the shoreline of Lake Shelby.

Maine Beaches

Through October 20, head toward the Maine Beaches area, a few miles from the seaside villages of Kennebunkport and Wells and straight to a glamping experience at Huttopia Southern Maine. Daily activities running from dawn till dusk will awaken the adventurer in you, while the restaurant will entice the most discriminating gourmet travelers.

Rates start at $85 a night and range up to $149. A three-night stay in a Canadienne Tent is priced at $256.50 for two people. Features of the 350-square-foot tent include a kitchen, terrace, picnic table and electricity.

The travel company Getaway offers tiny minimalist cabins outside of metropolitan areas for weary city-dwellers. You’ll find cabin locations convenient to these big cities: New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, Portland, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Dallas, Atlanta and Washington D.C.
