If you want Verizon’s 4G LTE network for a lower price, Visible is one of the new options that has emerged.
Clark.com first told you about Visible when it launched a low-cost prepaid plan in May 2018 that offers unlimited talk, text and data for $40/month — taxes and fees included.
Visible is owned by Verizon but operates independently, which is similar to AT&T-owned Cricket Wireless.
Things to know about Verizon’s $40 unlimited cell phone plan from Visible
The $40 a month cell phone deal from Visible may be attractive to Verizon customers who pay between $75 and $95 for a single line of service on its new unlimited data plans. See our comparison here.
Months ago, Visible removed the “invite code” requirement to sign up and made the service available nationwide.
Now, the wireless provider is adding new phone options. Visible started selling select Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy devices in late January 2019 and made BYOD (bring your own device) available to some Android users.
Previously, only iPhone users could bring their phone to Visible. Learn more about device compatibility here.
Like some of the other low-cost cell phone providers, Visible’s plan is not exactly the same as what Verizon offers.
For example, Visible’s website says that download speeds are limited to 5 Mbps, but you won’t be slowed down based on your data usage — only when the network gets congested.
During early access, Visible members will also get mobile hotspot with unlimited data at up to 5 Mbps:
We’re built for life on the go, so instead of giving you extra speed you don’t need (and making you pay for it), you get unlimited data at speeds up to 5 Mbps. That means video will typically stream at a resolution of 480p, nice and crisp on your phone. Here are some more details about what 5 Mbps will mean for you:
Streaming Video: 1-3 Mbps
Video Chatting: 1-2 Mbps
Scrolling through your social feeds: 1 Mbps
Streaming Audio: 0.5 Mbps
Heads up: when the network gets congested your data could slow up for a bit. Take a breath. It’ll pass.
To keep costs down, Visible has no physical stores. Everything is done through the app, including paying your monthly bill. Customer service is primarily available via chat, text and social media.
