Are annoying ads ruining your experience when you’re surfing the web? There’s no way to remove all of them, but Google is making it easier to block some ads on the sites and apps that partner with the internet giant.
Google’s “Mute This Ad” feature has been around since 2012, but there have been some changes you should know about.
How Google lets you block ads you don’t want to see
For instance, the tool will now recognize your feedback on any device where you’re signed in to Google. So if you mute an ad on your smartphone, it will also be muted on your laptop.
Google says it’s also expanding the control to work across more apps and websites that partner with them to show ads.
Here’s how to mute an ad:
- Click or tap x in the top corner of the ad you want to mute
- Click or tap Stop seeing this ad
In some cases, Google says it won’t be able to provide a “Stop seeing this ad” option and will instead provide an option to “Report this ad.”
Google says millions of people use “Mute This Ad” every day to provide feedback about unwanted, irrelevant ads. Last year, one million ads were removed from its ad network based on those comments.
