Amazon promises its Prime members free two-day shipping on millions of items, but what happens when your package is delivered late? It’s definitely a possibility during the busy holiday season.

I learned that Amazon may compensate customers when it doesn’t make its guaranteed delivery date.

Amazon delivery late? Here’s what you can get for free!

For example, I contacted Amazon’s customer service department about a package that showed up late and received a free month extension of my Prime benefits — just by asking politely!

When I posted my story to Clark’s Facebook page, some people said this tip also worked for them!

  • Mandee: I emailed about a late package yesterday and they refunded my money and told me to keep the package when it arrived.
  • Laurel: We have had it happen so many times they gave us a $40 credit on our account and extended our Prime.
  • Lori:  I tried today, they gave me a $10 credit to shop with.
  • Derek: I just tried this with a delayed shipping. I got something better than a free month extension. They refunded me 30% of my entire order.

NOVEMBER 2018 UPDATE: This article was originally published in 2017. When I contacted Amazon about another late delivery in November 2018, I got a $5 credit instead of a Prime extension.

How to contact Amazon about a late delivery

To reach out to Amazon about a late delivery, the first thing you need to do is visit the Contact Us page.

Below the list of your recent orders, Amazon will ask for more details about your issue. In this case, you would select “Where’s my stuff?” and “Shipment is late.”

You’ll then be given the choice to contact Amazon via email, phone or live chat.

Sample email to request compensation from Amazon

Amazon doesn’t provide compensation for all late deliveries, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Here’s a sample email that’s nearly identical to the one that worked for me:

Dear Amazon,

I am writing about a late package delivery. I read that Amazon may compensate customers in these cases. Is there anything that you can do to make up for the inconvenience this has caused me?

Thanks in advance,

Loyal Amazon customer
